One Hundred a Day

The calculator now gets used a bit over 100 times a day, double what it was six weeks ago.

What's interesting is where it came from. Search impressions actually went down over that stretch, with fewer people seeing the site in results. But far more of them clicked. Some title and description rewrites turned out to be more important than ranking higher.

Still no advertising budget. Everyone here found it through a search or because someone passed it along.

School Bus Full of Users

The Internet-Calculator.com website continues to grow. It now averages 50 visitors each day. That's not enough to crash any servers, but it's enough to fill a school bus with people using one of the calculators every day.

Thank you to everyone that has discovered the site through search engines and word of mouth. Another project was to create a sister calculator website at Standard-Calculator.com and it will be interesting to see which calculator website attracts more people looking for a quick calculator that remembers their work.

Dark Mode Added

The website and the calculator codebase were overhauled so everything now works in light and dark modes.

This calculator codebase change also means the calculator memory and calculation history are not cleared out each time a fix or update is made going forward. Yes, this one time the calculator memory and calculation history were cleared, but not going forward. The calculators have been stable for years so usually only little fixes or tweaks are made.

The calculators themselves are unchanged. Same features, same precision, same keyboard support, same calculation history. Just a better website around them, a tidier calculator codebase, and a few visual tweaks.

Simpler Navigation, No More Downloads

Did some housekeeping on the site today and wanted to share what changed and why.

The biggest change is that the option to buy and download the calculators has been removed. In two years and roughly 36,000 uses of the online calculators, exactly one person purchased a download for $7. That meant clearly that people just want to use the calculator online, and not own a copy of it. So no longer pretending otherwise, the whole buy/download section was pulled out.

The result is a cleaner site. The navigation is simpler, fewer pages to click through, and nothing is trying to sell you something you don't want. The calculators are free to use online and always will be, supported by the banner ads on the pages.

Also added a FAQ page with answers to the most common questions about the calculator such as how the calculation history works, how to use memory, keyboard shortcuts, how to get back to the calculator from the menu, and more. If you've ever wondered how something works, it's probably answered there.

The calculators themselves are unchanged. Same features, same precision, same keyboard support, same calculation history. Just a tidier website around them.

Settings Auto Saved

Version 1.157 calculators now remember their settings. However, when the calculators were updated to a newer version, the settings are reset to default and the history is cleared. You will need to set any preferred settings again. Should be pretty easy, and this allows the calculators to always be up to date.

Calculator State Remembered

July 23rd, 2023

Upgrade (Ver 1.156) to make our calculators easier to use. Now they remember the 'state' that they were in when closed, so when opened again, they are just where the user left off, even if that was in the middle of a calculation.

This means users do not lose their calculation history, memory value, result, or their current calculation. Auto saving their work is the default setting, but this can be turned off by placing the +iw (Ignore Work) setting on the URL, or via the 'Save Work' setting on the Settings page.

Search Clicks

Google search console reported that Internet-Calculator.com saw a record number of organic search clicks in June 2023 bringing new users to the site. This is not millions, or thousands, but a classroom full of students would run out of fingers and toes to count them all.
